Summary

PRESENTATION OF THE STUDY
In 2017, the first report on the French-American economic relationship highlitghted, state-by-state, the
importance, the depth and the balanced nature of the economic flows between France and the U.S., as
well as their benefits for our economies and our communities.
The 2018 issue of our French-American economic report confirms and surpasses the figures that we
shared a year ago: Trade ties keep expanding between France and the United States, up 16 percent in
2017 compared to the previous year, with exports and imports close to equilibrium.
French companies keep choosing the United States as an investment destination, thus creating more
jobs in all fifty states: In 2017, France was the largest source of job creation through FDI in the United
States. French companies are now the third largest foreign employers in the U.S.
For the 2018 issue, we wanted to let French companies speak and say why they chose the U.S. and what
role they play in deepening links between our nations. You can hear them, state-by-state, say why they rely on the U.S. as a free and
open environment for their business, where they can locate essential parts of their supply chain, invest in local R&D or improve
infrastructure and quality of life for millions of Americans.
We hope you find this report instructive and useful and that it contributes to further deepening the economic ties between our countries.
